This festive season, Hawaiian has once again partnered with Foodbank WA and Anglicare WA on Hawaiian’s Giving Box Christmas Appeal, helping Perth families in need to have a happier Christmas.
Every year, thousands of disadvantaged families in Western Australia are unable to celebrate this special time of the year, due to personal hardship or difficult life circumstances.
Hawaiian is encouraging retailers, tenants and shoppers to donate non-perishable food, children's gifts and Christmas items in the gold Giving Boxes located within participating Hawaiian properties across WA.
Suggested items include canned food – including canned vegetables, Christmas puddings, ham, fish and fruit – new clothing, new books, new children's clothes, dry goods, arts and craft supplies and board games.
Hawaiian CEO Russell Gibbs said the Hawaiian Giving Box program was first introduced in 2013 to make it easier for the WA community to come together and make a difference in the lives of those who need a helping hand.
“Every year, many Western Australians experience food insecurity, with a growing number of children, young people and families requiring assistance,” he said.
“We’re proud to be partnering with Foodbank WA and Anglicare WA again for the sixth year – both organisations have deep roots in the local community and a strong network to distribute resources to those who need them most.
“Our Giving Boxes encourage the WA community to get involved and make a positive impact – every little bit counts.”
For the first time, the Hawaiian Giving Boxes will also feature the Quest Donation Point Tap terminal allowing a Tap and Go payment method for monetary donations.
Anglicare WA CEO Ian Carter said community contributions to the Hawaiian Giving Box can make a positive difference to families struggling to afford the essentials at Christmas.
“Families doing it tough have complex needs, and small gifts can bring joy to their children,” he said.
Hawaiian has also partnered with schools across WA for the Giving Box Appeal. Giving Boxes were placed within the nominated schools to encourage students, teachers and their families to come together and support the appeal. The program will run from 17 November to 13 December.
In 2017, Hawaiian’s Giving Box raised a total of 5,730kg of food equating to 21,736 meals, and 9,013 gifts, supporting over 30,000 Western Australian families in need.
