Hawaiian Launches 2024 Giving Box Appeal to Combat Food Insecurity
Everyone deserves access to good quality and nutritious food, yet many vulnerable Western Australians struggle to put food on the table, especially during the festive season.
This year, Foodbank WA has reported more families than ever before have reached out for food assistance as they battle cost-of-living expenses and life challenges.
Together with Foodbank WA, Hawaiian is encouraging its neighbourhoods to help support those facing food stress and insecurity through its annual Giving Box Appeal, an initiative aimed at supporting those in need.
Thanks to the help of the community, last year’s Giving Box campaign generated 3,118 kilograms of food donations for Foodbank WA, with monetary contributions enabling 88,218 meals to be created.
Sandra Holloway, General Manager of Marketing and Partnerships at Hawaiian said: “Our annual Giving Box appeal is more than just a Christmas campaign; it’s a chance for everyone to come together and make a difference. Whether it’s donating non-perishable foods, having a photo with Santa or making a monetary contribution, every bit helps Foodbank support those in need, not just during the festive season, but beyond. We know times are tough, so we’re simply asking people to only share what they can spare, if they can. A little can go a long way to helping someone in need.” Ms Holloway added.
This year, Hawaiian aims to surpass previous efforts with the help of the community and reach even more vulnerable people in need. Kate O’Hara, CEO of Foodbank WA, expressed her gratitude for the ongoing support, saying: “At Foodbank WA, we are committed to ensuring that every Western Australian has access to nutritious food—a basic human right that should never be compromised. The Giving Box Appeal, in partnership with Hawaiian, exemplifies the remarkable power of community in addressing food stress, particularly during the festive season.
This year, as we face even greater demands from families struggling with the cost of living, we are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Hawaiian and the generous contributions from our community. Each donation, no matter the size, contributes to a lifeline for those in need, reminding us that together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of many,” Mrs O’Hara said.
Hawaiian’s Giving Boxes will be in place from Monday 18 November to Tuesday 24 December 2024.
